1/17 - HHC Healthy Baking Class: Commercial and processed baked goods can be laden with unhealthy and unnatural ingredients. In this baking class, students will learn to make some delicious goodies using whole foods and healthier ingredients.

2/14 - HHC Heart Healthy Cooking Class: The foods we eat can have a huge effect on keeping our hearts healthy. Students will learn to make healthy food choices with a menu planning activity and then learn to make some heart healthy foods for Valentine’s Day!

3/14 - Pi Day Celebration: Who doesn’t love pie? Desserts can be full of sugar and unhealthy ingredients. But did you know that you can “have your pie and eat it too?" Learn how to make yummy and healthy desserts using wholesome, natural ingredients.

4/25 - HHC Mama Mia Thatsa Pasta: Pasta is a great addition to any healthy diet and is versatile, tastes great, and is easy to cook. Some pastas are healthier than others, and we’ll learn about different types to choose from, and proper portion sizes. We’ll learn to cook with a variety of pastas and sample different tastes and textures.

200005 - KNO + Pee Wee Night Out

Children will have a blast participating in swimming, gym games, climbing the wall and crafts! Remember to bring a bathing suit and towel. Note: Swimming will only be for those who can swim. You must have closed toed shoes to climb the climbing wall.

200006 - Nerf® Night

Get out of the house and bring your NERF® dart shooter to the VRC for a showdown with friends! We will engage in a variety of activities including shooting at targets and breaking into teams for a showdown. We will set up barriers in the gym and build forts. Participants must bring their own Nerf® dart shooter and darts. Please make sure all equipment is labeled with participant’s name.

Stir Fry Class: Stir-Frying is a meal in a pan with endless combinations of protein, veggies and sauces that can be enjoyed any time! This class will engage and challenge your child to "Eat Your Colors" that will turn even the pickiest eater into a fruit and veggie warrior!

Growing and Cooking with Herbs: Cooking with fresh and dried herbs can add pizzazz to many foods. In this fun class kids will learn how to grow their own herb containers, and then use some of those same kinds of herbs to make delicious recipes.

Make Your Own Pizza: More than 3 billion pizzas are purchased in the U.S. every year. No wonder pizza is one of America’s favorite foods! In this fun class, your young chef will learn how to make their very own healthy pizza from scratch! We will start by making our pizza crust, then make a yummy sauce or two and then top our homemade pizzas with fresh toppings!

Bento Box Lunch: Opa! Greek Healthy Lunch Class: Opa! Get your Greek on! Your kids will love learning to make this Greek inspired Bento Healthy Lunch. Bento is a Japanese style of eating where lunch items are packed into a wooden or plastic box with individual compartments. Bento lunches consist of a balance of food groups, colors and textures. Included is this exciting cooking class is Greek Chicken Pita, Cucumber & Tomato Salad, Homemade Tzatziki Sauce, and fresh fruit. Students need to bring their own 3-4 compartment sealable/reusable lunch kit/box.

220018 - Top Chef

Come show off your skills in the kitchen! You will be provided with a variety of basic ingredients along with any additional ingredients you bring yourself. There will be a time limit that you will have to make your best dish. After you complete your dish, there will be judges to choose the best based on taste and appearance. The winner will receive a prize and a certificate of Top Chef Vandalia.

Special Note: A list of ingredients will be provided when you sign up. No parent help during preparation or during event. You must pre-register for this program. No walk-ins.

220020 - International Mud Day

Are you ready to get really messy and celebrate International Mud Day? Join us for some messy, sloppy, slimy fun in the sun this summer. We will play wet and messy games and more all with mud!

SPECIAL NOTE: Please be sure to wear old clothes that you do not mind getting very dirty. Bring an extra pair of clothes to change into on the ride home. Kids should also bring a sack lunch with a drink. Kids will be participating in very messy activities, please only sign up if interested in getting really dirty! Participants must be registered by June 22.

Are you ready to educate your child on the responsibilities of being home alone? This class will assist you children to feel more comfortable while at home by themselves. Topics covered will be First Aid, reasons to call 911, fire escape plans, microwave safety, and how to problem solve out-of-the ordinary situations. A pizza lunch will be provided. Instructed by the Vandalia Fire Department.
